Crashing the Attic
Well, color me thrilled! I was asked awhile back by Delbut (thanks Del!) to contribute a song for a tribute CD to present to Rachel Fuller, Pete Townshend, Simon Townshend and Mikey Cuthbert, of In the Attic fame. I chose to cover Behind Blue Eyes by The Who and asked my guitarist from Leather & Lace, Jim Reynolds now with Cameron Avenue band, to put his hand to the electric guitar parts. He accepted and made the song so much more than I was alone (thanks Jim!). His son Jim Jr engineered and mastered it (thanks Jim Jr!) and off it went to Rance Nakamura in Canada for the final mixdown onto the CD (thanks Rance!). Rance also did the cover/back/insert artwork (thanks again Rance!!)
Well, today Rachel reviewed and announced the CD on her blog. Thanks Rachel!!! She was gracious and kind and again, I thank her for her comments. Pete will be reviewing it next (thanks in advance Pete!). If you'd like to see the CD review and track listings, and later possibly hear the songs themselves, visit Rachel at the link below:
Look for the 9/12/07 blog entry titled Crashing the Attic
(Addendum: I've been given permission to post my contribution to CTA, a reprise of Behind Blue Eyes, at My Musicians MySpace as well as at Independent Artists Company IAC).

Very special, what a recognition. Good for you.

Grace, thank you!

Hi lacey Lace. I couldn't down load the cover either. Luckily, rance sent me 6 copies of the CD all ready printed, packaged etc. All of which went to you know who.
I just photographed it to put on my blog. Maybe if you ask Rance nicely??
Hmmmm Del, you think Rance would send me the inserts? He's kinda busy. Maybe I'll have Jim Jr take a look at the directions first. He's the computer savvy one of our sorry lil lot. :P
Have you emailed Carrie yet?
~Lace~
Congrats sweet woman! I just added you to my iChat btw...I am theballerinagurl LOL go figure!
Chat later when I get home if you are around.

Hi Lace:
Maybe you could put up a link to your "Behind Blue Eyes" cover. I'd love to hear it.
Rob
Hey Rob! Thanks for coming by!! I'd gladly put up a link if Rachel and Pete gave permission, until then, I can't. If they give it, I surely will.
xoxo
~Lace~
Isn't Rance a peach?
Very nice post!
Thanks to Del for being our fearless leader!
Love ya,
Suexxxxx
Rance is the peachiest Sue :) with Del right beside him..
Love you back!!!
::hugs::

Off topic but...
I have to thank you for the kind words regaring the "song" I put up on my blog. Coming from a singer/musician like yourself means all the more.
Rob
Hi Lace,
thank you for the kind words over on the blog. It's interesting, some songs are easier to do than others.
I'm recording a new song presently, and ha! trying to emulate Fleetwood Mac style background vocals, ha! I chuckle at futility sometimes..
Fleetwood Mac, I've covered them for 20 years, I love that band. Can't wait to hear the new song, is it a contender for the *next blogger CD*??
::Hugs::
~Lace~
Hi Lace,
If you guys do another cd can I play along 2.
Thanks,
Aaron jr
Aaron,
I'm going to send your request by special delivery to the originator of the last (Delbut) and next (Ronzi) project!!
~Lace~
Hi Lace,
That would be super. I really appreciate it. It would be nice to put a song along side with you and gary and everyone else who added there musicianship.
Thanks you,
Aaron Norcross jr
Aaron Jr, you're welcome! You continually amaze me!! Keep playin'!
~Lace~
so, did you hear anything more about the next CD? Curious.
Gary,
Nothing yet, I just sent an email to Ronzi and Del with Aaron's request. Still waiting to hear...
~Lace~
Hi Lace,
Again thanks for sending in my request, it would be nice but if it doesnt well thats fine, you never know if you dont ask the wosrt they can say is no.
selah,
aaron
Lace,
Thanks so much,I promise I will do a good job.
awesome,
aaron jr
I have no doubts about that kiddo! Will keep you posted!!
~Lace~
Hi Lace
I dont know if you like greenday but I have been learning there songs. This is the song I am going to do at a preshow for the rocky horror show. I know it needs more work and there is also a swear word in there the f word and my dad says it is ok to say only when it is written that way in a song.

take care,
aaron jr
I think Crashing the Attic is fabulous! What a great idea. Pete and Rachel have definitely started something...
Thanks for visiting and for your kind words and thought. I am taking it step by step right now.
Love
Dale
Hi Lace, how are you?
Hi Aaron, I'm not all that familiar with Greenday, blame it on my age! You keep rockin kiddo! :)
Dale, I hope alls sorting itself out our in your world, thanks so mcuh for dropping by. CTA was a blast to be involved with, Del was the originator and so the kudos for getting it together go to him and Rance.
Grace, hello! I'm hangin' in, I'll stop by your way to say hello.
~Lace~
Hi Lace!
Thanks for your kind and supportive words.
U rock!!! (even if you AREN'T a Greenday fan! hee hee They are Anjoli's faves. I have to say I love 'em too).
Love ya,
Sues
PS Did you see that you have to be invited now to Pete's blog? I'm sad.
I bet YOU got an invite...
:)
Hi Lace, and thanks for visiting me! I would love to hear the work you've all done on Crashing the Attic. Copyright issues are important, I know, but at times like this just so frustrating! I hope one day we'll all get to hear it.
I just love the feeling behind this project - such a genuinely affectionate and loving homage, and a wonderful way to say thank you for what we have all enjoyed so much.
As for Pete's new blog, I've been away for a few days and didn't check in until it became invitation only, but I'm sure this will be ironed out as, when and if Pete feels it's time. I'm happy to go with the flow. I can't see him deliberately excluding people who've contributed to his blogs in the past.
Swho, I barely get to listen to 8soft rock FM stations* nevermind the up and coming new crowd of talent. I am old, old I tell you!
And oh yes, Pete dropped by my house the other day to log me right into his new blog himself. ::Giggles.. as if::
Margie, my pleasure! Hopefully Rach can get things ironed out so others can hear CTA. It was really an honor to be asked to contribute. Rach & Pete do so much to make themselves available to us, it was really a privledge to give them something in return. I think the log in at Petes right now is to avoid another 600+ posts at his blog before he's even ready to go with it. Hopefully when it's ready to roll, we will all receive invitations to join in. I think we will.
~Lace~
Geez Lace, how do I get in on the next CD? I'm thinking "Substitute" would be cool to cover. Maybe Aaron Jr. and I can trade off guitar licks on it:)
Rob
Rob, you gotta talk to Ronzi. He's heading up the next project!
~Lace~
I KNEW you got an invite!!!
I am forever 15 (not always a good thing).
We're expecting a typhoon! It's crazy windy/rainy right now. Guess I am home bound this weekend.
Take care and have yourself a great weekend,
Love,
Suexxxx
Swho you silly one.. I didn't get an invitation.. Pete couldn't find my house from the directions I gave (JUS KIDDIN). I'm waiting along with the rest to see if *I'm in*. :P
But none of that nonsense, hows the weather over there!!
~Lace~
Hi Lace:
I still don't get what's going on. Does Pete have a new blog and if so where did you find out or read about it? I saw nothing on Rachel's blog. Also what all this invite stuff about?
Sorry I picked your brain to pick, but you seem to know what's going on.
Rob
Hi Rob, if you look at Rachel's blog from Oct 1 you'll see a post titled *It's The Real Thing*. She talks about the new Who website that will be up and running soon, and gave the blog address of Pete's official blog. If you went that day to it, you'd have seen a test pot. People started posting to it and so directly after that it was closed to the public. I am guessing to avoid 600+ posts to a test blog, that is not ready yet. What we're all hoping is that it will eventually be open to the public, or if is not, that the regular bloggers will be invited to participate on it.
We have to wait to see.
~Lace~
Beautifully explained, Thank You:)
Cool, it sounds like there's hope that it will be opened to the "public" so to speak. This is good for me 'cause I probably wouldn't get invited. I never get invited:(
By the way, since I know you're a singer, I'll mention that I just got home from a concert that was basically a singing exhibition. Black Sabbath aka: Heaven and Hell w/Ronnie James Dio on vocals, Alice Cooper, and Queensryche w/ Geoff Tate singing of course. Dio was amazing, Geoff Tate was amazing and Alice Cooper was Alice Cooper. It was a Heavenly evening!
Thanks again for the info,
Rob
Rob,
You're welcome. You asked before and Rachel's given me permission to put Behind Blue Eyes on my Myspace~>

Great,Lace!
I just checked it out and your voice sounds beautiful. I'm only bummed about one thing...And don't take this the wrong way but...You left out my favorite part of the song. You know,"When My Fist Clenches..." That's where I'd come in and lay down some heavy guitar for ya:)Lol!
Like I said: DON'T TAKE IT THE WRONG WAY! It sounded very lush and beautiful. Thanks for putting it up there for us to hear.
Rob
No offense taken at all Rob, it wasn't the guitarist (Jim) with the problem (tho I'd love for you to lay down heavy parts for me!). I listened to the original version over and over when I was programming it and realized that my *gurly* vocal was just not going to cut Roger's rocked out part. So I risked revising the arrangement rather than do it gross injustice. (I was also supposed to do Jigsaw but got sick and couldn't).
Thanks for the compliment!
~Lace~
Hi Lace, just popped in here in response to your comment on my story blog, and wow! I had no idea you were a singer...and gifted ...and with a track on a CD known and probably loved by now by Pete and Rachel. that is really something! I shall go listen to the song right away, and will the CD go public at all? Well done you! I am a fervent Who and Pete fan, but have never followed their blogs or in the Attic. I am always impressed when I see these kinds of contributions and demosntrations of loyalty and international fellowship. Cool! Thanks for wasdering by, dear Lace
Hey there
Thank you for visiting my blog and for your beautiful words.
I am very excited to hear that you are a singer. I am going now to listen to your song.....
WOW!
Thank you for the enjoyment of that. You have made the song so mystical and lyrical. Gorgeous. It appears to be such a simple song but the emotion of it is quite difficult. There are a 1000 ways to interpret this song but get it wrong ...and its ****ed. I love your version.
Will be reading more of your blog. I WILL be back.. Right now though...off to write an exam. xxx
God Bless
Hiya Lacy One!
Thank you for the wishes. Sweet ;o)
I forgot to mention that my younger autistic boy is a music-o-philiac. He has very eclectic taste. When I played your cover Blue Eyes for him ... he was enthralled, enchanted, and did the most peculiar, lovely dance around the room. On tiptoe, arms extended, as graceful as a ballerina. Eyes closed, head back. He spun and waved. It was incredible. We must have listened 20 times at least. He was very upset when I *had* to get off the computer. lol
I promise you ... if he digs your music/voice ... you rock the Ether. In no small way.
xo Tink
Val, welcome!! And thank you! I've lurked at your page many times but didn't post. I enjoy reading your blogging and am quite taken with your worldliness!! Africa!!
The CD will not go public without Rachel & Pete's wish/ability to post it on Rachel's blog. Because none of us got licensing rights (we just did it as a gift to them- so getting the licensing before we presented them with it would have pretty much ruined the surprise..) it is probably next to impossible to release it. But Rachel said she was going to try to figure out a way to get permissions to put each song on her blog. I say GOOD LUCK RACHEL!
Again thanks for stopping in!
~Lace~
Sidney! Hello!! I loved your blog entry. Also your entries to TOWHM.
Thanks so much for your kind words. I've ALWAYS loved that song and was nervous to have redone my version skipping the part most Who loving males will surely miss. But as I told Rob, there was no way my vocal was going to do it justice.
I didn't know you were in school, what are you taking? Do come back! I'll visit you again as well!!
Good luck on the exam.
~Lace~
Or maybe you are teaching and drawing up the exam? Forgive me stoopidity!!
xox
~Lace~
Tink, you made my day. Maybe my year. I've worked with exception children my whole professional life and to think that my song had that effect on your lil one made my heart absolutely swell. I wish I could have seen him. Just picturing him in my mind made me tear up.
The hope that you touch someone is a driving force behind your singing, well mine anyway. To hear that you touched someone that special, Tink.. there are no words.
::Hugs and hugs to her and her boys::
~Lace~
Lace:
I get what you're saying about why you left out the middle part of the tune. I didn't even think about it though 'til you mentioned it. I suppose clenching fists and ripping things out of throats isn't too lady-like is it? LOL.
What trips me out is how many women are Who fans. I always thought of The Who as pretty much strictly a "guy's band" until seeing so many girls over on Pete's blog. I rarely met a girl into The Who when I was growing up. It's good to know you're out there.
Rob
Lace,
Wow, finally got around to listening to your cover.
It's perfect. The way you've arranged it, I don't miss the middle section at all -- very well done! (like how you go into that last "free.....") And you have a pleasant, natural voice for the part. Beautiful! And beautifully produced. It's a lovely song to begin with, after all...
I'll play the song for my son too. :-)
Can you turn on the comments section on your MySpace? I thought it might be nice for you to get comments there too.
P.S. Would one need to have had much musical experience to contribute to another tribute CD (if there is one?) Or can one "audition" for a part? I don't have much of a voice, but I can play some guitar. :-)
Aww Lace :o)
Takin' yer props - atta girl. ;o)
Lace * it is time for a new post, I see you moving around blogland, what is new with you?
xx
I suppose clenching fists and ripping things out of throats isn't too lady-like is it? LOL
No not too Rob!! LOL. But seriously it had more to do with my vocal style and feeling sure I'd have slaughtered the part that it's *missing*.
Lucy thanks!! I've no clue how to turn on comments from *non-friends* at Myspace, I once tried to add you as a friend quite awhile back but didn't have your email address or know your last name and so was blocked from being able. I'll turn on the comments section if you tell me how, but I'd rather add you, if I may. I didn't know you play guitar! I think I just found out tnat Lin does too. I've not done any of the planning or recruiting for blogger projects and continue to steer people interested towards the originators (Del prior and now Ronzi).
Tink, you're just a sweetie! xox
Grace, I am the *worse* at keeping up with regular entries, look down at my page, nary a one from May to August. I so often wander about and lurk, promising myself to go back and comment, and then life gets in the way. There are so many people I find interesting among the RF/PT crowd. They really have spawned a *family* of sorts, haven't they. I will try to think of something to say tho ::puts on thinking cap:: xox
~Lace~
Too much time spent Myspacing, Lacey one! Get back here where you belong girl.
Yes ma'am!!
:P
~Lace~
Hi Lace, thanks again for the comments! Me worldly?? Haha, I live in very small circles but true, in a very big world ;-)
How's it going with the CD? What I'm not very worldly about is the internet, and worse, about mySpace. Can't seem to figure it out at all, so I slunk back to my blog where I felt safer..but, I did hear your song, and I think you have a great voice. Not girly at all, but rich and strong. Reminded me of one of my fave singers ever, Bonnie Raitt. She never roars, but she sure belts it out, and I can imagine you could do the same, so....the middle bit of Behind Blue Eyes??
By the way, my regular blog is 'Vereeniging'. Pop in there sometime.....xx
Val, thank you so much for the compliment! Bonnie Raitt! She is one of my all time favs, I have covered her songs playing out for over 20 years. I admire her muchly, and so to be compared to her is an honor!! I'll have to practice that middle part of BBE ;)
I've been to Vereeninging, I'm such a lurker, so many times I actually resist the urge to post because I often don't get back in time to have an exchange with the blogger. I saw your book on Africa, and to me, you are wordly, you live in exotic places, and now a barge!! Very kewl.
PS We are the same age, when is your bday??
xox
